Fluval Edge #3

Ok received yet another broken edge so I converted it to topless as well. Led light conversion on its way.

Rotala macranda
Rotala rotundifolia
Sagittaria platyphylla
Cryptocoryne wendtii de witt

Thinking of c. parva for the front of the tank once conversion is done

3 broken edge tanks? That's dedication!
Fool me once: shame on you
Fool me twice: shame on me
Fool me three times and I'll just roll topless.

How on earth did you fit that dw in there??

The top glass came in cracked so the top is removed. The first one isn't ruined at all but somehow the driftwood wedged in at a angle and then I planted around it. It can be tough at times

Oh I see, you didn't just go without the funky hood thingy, you removed the whole glass plate. That solves pretty much every complaint about the edge
Does it seem sturdy without the top plate?

I just stocked my newest tank with forktail rainbows (pseudomugil furcata) very cool! I've had several of the melanotaenia rainbows in the past. Do you keep threadfins because I've considered moving the tetras from my edge and moving threadfins in.

Actually that is what is in the tank lol...if you want some I pay about $3.50 to $4.00 for adults at the local store.

Thinking about parva or maybe some micro sword after I change the lighting. Right now there wouldn't be enough light to support stuff in the front

Have you ever tried using the 42 LED version on the 6 gallon?

I did that and the lights are still very lacking, surprisingly the 42 LED on the 12 gallon puts out more light it seems. Very weird results as one would think putting more lights into a 6 gallon will brighten it up.

Also, since you seen a lot of Edges tanks, do you find the newer ones are of lower build quality?

My 12 gallon have very poor silicone and the corners are buffered down, well one of the corners anyways.

The 42 light conversion is what I have on order and I agree the new plastic feels different and cheap. I haven't noticed the silicone issue but then again all three I am using are old models.

I brought the Edge when it first came out, I had the typical fake plants and colour gravel.

What is confusing is how the newer Edge(s) have very poor construction. My 6 gallon has a very smooth silicone bond while my Edge 12 gallon is extremely poor in construction.

I had to tear off some excess silicone, the top right corner is buffered down which I have no idea why. The glossy hood piece lost it's shine in a month and the base + back side is uneven.

I think they must of rushed the 12 gallon because the display tank in the store looked and had the same problems.

If you get a chance, can you take a picture of the stock 21 LED on a Edge 6 gallon and compare it to the 42 LED, I have the 42 LED on 6 and it is pretty low powered.

^ Sound good.

One would think a light bar made for a bigger tank would look brighter on a smaller tank.
