24W JBJ Lighting Ballast Failure

Has anyone had issues with JBJ lighting ballasts? I have a 24W jbj ballast that comes with the 12G Nanocube. This is the second ballast that has died on me. I have checked all of the wires and changed the bulb, but still, no light (actually it flickers from time to time). There has always been a heavy build of condensation under the hood and I think this could be the problem. Are there any similar problems or can anyone give suggestions on how I can prevent this from happening again? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dan.

moisture/condensation + lights = bad.

If the light flickers, the bulb is not broken. Its probably just a short circuit or a loose connection. I have some issues with my coralife, some days the bulb wont go on, and I have to take it out and re attach it. Dont know bout JBJ, but try turning it on and off, take out power chord, remove bulb and put it back in, etc.

Is your model fan cooled? Also, make sure the splash guard is installed correctly - check if all the screws are tight etc.

Thanks and Tino, Thank you for the responses. I have tried unplugging the blub and jiggling the wires ...nada. This morning, after letting the ballast dry out over night, I tried turning it on and all I got was a one flicker. The splash guard is installed correctly. Also, I purchased the nanocube before they started putting fans in the hood. Can I install them myself? If so where can I purchase them? JBJ doesn't seem to carry them. Thanks again, Dan

Due to the particular design of the canopy, overheating and excessive condensation issues were, I believe, the reason all Nano Cubes started to come fan cooled. I don't know if you can DIY fans into your existing unit, but I would encourage you to conact JBJ (310-672-4099) and see if you an order just the fan cooled canopy by itself.

Maybe this is why the new nanocubes are shipping with Fulham ballasts . I've had one of the original nanocubes set up for about a year now with no problems, but I don't seem to have condensation issues to the same extent. There's a lot of info on modding nanocubes (including adding fans) at nano-reef.com

The fans on my brand new 6 gal nanocube are SO loud that I yanked their plugs out. My first nanocube was the no-fan 12 gal and I love it...

I called jbj lighting and they sent me a new ballast. It was under a 6 month warranty and they were very easy to deal with. Thanks for everyone's help.
