New Eclipse Hex 5

In the process of setting up my Hex 5 (i know, show us the pictures). Right now i have eco-complete (one day i'll find some crypt parva), a nice piece of driftwood, a bunch of frilly java fern (windilov, I believe, or similar)that i'm playing around with, bacopa along the back walls, and a marimo ball. I had the LFS guy (confused and unhelpful, but the best plants in the area, by far) drop a few duckweed leafs in there. there was only 5 this morning, but hopefully they should grow like mad and eat up nutrients.

I plan on getting a betta and a few ghost and amano shrimp for the tank. of course, petco, of all places had an opaque (almost white) double tail betta the other week, but i wasn't ready for it

sorry, just a self-indulgent post.

Congradulations on the new tank. I almost ended up with one of those for one of my bettas too. Hows the overall spread of light? any dark spots? Did you get the newer model with the 10 watt CF instead of the incandescent light?

Just curious.

yes, i got the one w/ the 10w fluorescent. i'd have to say that the lighting is superior to the system 3 and 6. the light has a metal reflector bent @ 45 degree angles behind it, although it's not that shiny. i'm a little tempted to take some super-fine steel wool to it to try to buff it up. the bulb sits dead center above the tank, so lighting is pretty well spread, w/ a bias to the middle. all in all, i have to say it's one of the better made eclipses. if the little feeding hatch doesn't suffice, you can easily pull out the light fixture and the clear plastic tank lid that protects the fixture. the filter is also easily accessible by pulling off another panel. if you need to access even more of the top of the tank, you can easily pull out the whole filter casing (make sure to unplug it first). this will allow almost full access to the top of the tank.

i've got to say supa, your nano posts were one of the deciding factors to pick this think up!

Hoping for pix.

I switched the eclipse hex 5 that I have at work over to plants last week. Finally found the 10 watt CF bulb for it. There's a happy red betta living there now! So far, so good.
