5 g betta garden

Hello!
I'm newish here, I have been posting on the low tech forum lately but I have been lurking around the nano for awhile too. I figured I would post pics of my tank and it's progress....

Here it is upon first planting....

Its pretty sad looking....but it was my first time....
So after a while of letting things grow and what not I discovered one day that I had leeches in there....must have come in on the plants.....so I dug the whole thing up and dumped it...minus the plants. I disinfected everything and boiled my soil this time just in case.

I then bought more plants and replanted Nd came up with this...

That's a Little bit better...especially since there are no leeches!

And after a couple of months I bought more plants and this is what it looks like now...

Personally it looks better In person, lol.

Thanks for viewing any suggestions about anything are welcome!

My paint has started to chip, I take it out and scrub it with a heavy duty scrub brush to get the loose pieces off every once in a while. My betta likes it so I figure it's all gotta be aquarium safe to use in an aquarium so even if it's ugly I'll still use it.

Okay! I wish there was some natural wood that would float like that and be shaped like that.

I know, I'm sure cork wood would float like that...the kind that is sold in the reptile section but I don't know how it would hold up in water for to long.

Alright, so my plan would be to buy enough to break it apart and glue it together into a ring and then sand it smooth on the inside and outside.
