Finnex 4 - pbfreakon

I'm back.

(though I doubt anyone will remember me )

But seriously. About two years ago I was just delving in to the planted tank thing for the first time, and never really got too far along with it. My interest hasn't gone away, however, and now I'm back with a bit more time, a bit more money, and a college degree!

Now that I'm finally going to be in one place for an extended amount of time, I decided it was time to have a go at this again.

Here's what I've got so far:

Tank-
Finnex 4 Gallon

Lighting-
Archaea 27w

Filtration-
Zoo Med 501 (for now)

CO2-
Funky pressurized paintball regulator kinda thing (more on this later..)

Substrate-
Aquasoil Powder

Hardscape-
Manzanita Branches (possibly rocks too?)

Plants-
None purchased yet

As far as the scape goes, I played around with the branches the other day, and the picture below is what I liked best. My vision is to have a rock jutting out in the same direction as the branches. Then, having some stems in the back left coming down as far as the branches, a medium sized plant at their edge (dhg?) and the rest will be HC.

However, there may be some layouts worth revisiting in my old thread (https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/pl...lgae-help.html)

Glad to be back, hoping for a more successful run this time around!

Sweet. I don't know you, but welcome back! Looks like a nice start. Forget the CO2, build a shrimp tank.

Carole, you're right, it has been 3 years! Geez..

I would like to have some shrimp in the tank after it's all cycled and ready for them thats for sure. I like amano's, so probably some of those and some oto's. Then who knows!

Update!

Got some rocks (compliments of NeoShrimp) in there, think this is where the hardscape is headed.

Got some rotala in the mail a couple days ago from jmrmotorhead and should be receiving some HC tomorrow afternoon.

Then, it will be time to plant!

Zach! That is such a beautiful placement of the Seiryu stones. I love it! Looks so clean too...thanks to my bf. He is so obsessed with over-cleaning everything he puts in our tank. Lol.

Overall very beautiful. Can't wait to see more : )

you didn't want to do a dry start with this?

Well, I filled it because I bought some rotala that I was planning to place in the back left...but it had to sit for a long time in a small tupperware full of water while I waited on the HC to show up. So I filled the tank to be able to plant the rotala but now I'm not sure if its worth it

I never knew Finnex made perfectly squared tanks. All the ones I've seen from them had two curved front corners.

Personally, I'd empty it and do a dry start for the HC. I tried twice and was never successful at getting it to carpet while submerged (I also had AS powder as the substrate).

Did your HC die? or did it just not carpet at all?

And they don't make perfectly squared tanks, I just put the rounded corners in the back.
