Evolution of a nano (moved)

I have a 2.5 gallon nano tank that has been sitting on my desk for months that I hadn't done much with. I threw in a few plants and let it go because I didn't have any ideas for what to do with it.
Here is what I started with:

Obviously I wasn't happy with this, since it was just some plants in a tank, so I decided to finally get around to trying something with it. I decided to try something that would invoke the feeling of a river. This is what my initial try looked like:

I didn't like the rocks because they didn't look right and I didn't like the driftwood, either, so I went gathering and picked up some I liked a little better.

I am pretty happy with the end results, but I just got it put together a few days ago and the algae is getting going faster than the plants. It needs time to grow out yet. Also, I am not all that crazy about the wood on the left yet. I am going to keep my eye out for something that looks a little more like a tree before I will be done. I think I will have to go spend some time wandering along the local river to find a better piece of wood. Now GROW you damn plants, GROW!!!

Two 1 GA desktops, a 5 gallon, a 2.5 gallon, a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon, a 25 gallon, and two 75 gallon tanks, all planted.
I am an expert on algae, so ask me if you have questions. I know how to grow it, just not how to get rid of it.

lol

i like both the end result and the very first pic.
just put some moss on that DW on the left to mask it, but allow it to keep its general shape. that way it will wind up looking like the tree you want.

Yeah, I already thought about it and if I can't replace it, I will hide it. I have christmas tree moss tied to both the left and right side of it at the bottom. It will hopefully grow upwards and fill it in a bit.

tie some at the mid-top area. it likes to grow downward and out.

One more revision. I thought the driftwood on the left seemed out of scale with the rest of the tank, so I just busted up a little twig and fixed it with some more christmas moss. The idea is to have two little trees after it is all grown out.
