Another Ebi thread

Picked it up two days ago. It had a cracked lid, so I got a good deal for it. Currently it has 8 pounds of Stratum substrate and a Tom's Rapid filter (we'll see how long it lasts). Yesterday, I added 2 pots of dwarf baby tears, two pieces of driftwood from an existing tank, and some moss. I have a paintball Co2 running on another tank that I am going to switch over soon. I'll post more as things get going. Still need to some rock that I like, but this is how it looks right now.

Are you running the light that came with the tank. If so you will need to upgrade in order to get the HC to grow.

Correct. I'm searching for a second stock light. It's that or find a desk lamp. I have a lamp that has a 27w bulb that I'm thinking of moving over. Might just give it a try before I buy another stock light.

Don't waste you time on the stock lighting. They will burn out within the next two months unless Hagen has fixed the problem. I purchased a Finnex 26W clipon light from their site and love it. As an added bonus it has 2 blue LED moon lights for at night. The only disadvantage is that the daylight and moon lights are on the same switch so you can just plug them individually into a timer; you will manually have to switch them at night. Other than that I love my light!!

Thought I'd post another pic. And since I moved some pics around in my photobucket account, I'll post up the first one again.

And the current one with the new 27w light and co2 running.

The Finnex light is much better than a desk lamp... and the bulb is replaceable, unlike the Fluval.

You can replace the bulb in the Fluval, but it requires a proprietary bulb.

Are you going to be using the lid? If so, I don't think the Finnex light will fit properly, you'll need to have someone cut out a space on the lid.

I'm not using the lid currently, but I've already found a glass company to alter the lid if I do.

The desk lamp I am using has a fluorescent compact (4 tubes in all) 27w light. 2 day after setting that up, I noticed some of the plants stopped melting. If things start to go bad again, I'll look for another light, but until then, I'll run a free light.
