2.5 advice

Hi all how you been?
Just looking for some ideas, when I go back to college (not for a few months) I want to bring a small 2.5 gal tank with me, with just some cherry shrimp.
I am going to be using a CFL light with a desk light prob 14w, sound ok?
and might add some DIY CO2.

I am thinking about a dry start. also want the tank pretty lush since i am not too sure if i will be using a filter(if not lots of water changes)

My question is aside from moss what plant would be alright? I want to stick to 2 or 3 types. so a forground midground and background plant and maybe some moss on a log.

and finaly think this could work? any advice or conserns just say.

Thanks for your time as always.

If your doing DIY C02 in a 2.5 gallon then you can pretty much grow anything.

I'll be bringing a 2.5 to college as well maybe a 5

I'm sure you're going to be able to grow HC with your set up.

My 2.5gal has a 13w fixture directly on top of it; 8 inches from the substrate. I've grown fissidens moss, java fern philippine and windelov, anubias, and the easier crypts. I don't have DIY co2, but as far as I can tell, my plants are doing great.

Don't forget that you also need to use fertilizers. Since you're not planning to use a filter, atleast a small power head or airstone so there will be circulation in the tank.

Currently out of the hobby

Here is my 2.5 w/ a 13w fixture, no co2.

HC seems to be doing well so far. I didn't do a dry start and I rarely use ferts in this tank, though I should I planted very little HC in the beginning so it took a while to fill in.
