Ebi/Flora Lighting Question

I have a quick question about the lighting that comes with the Fluval Flora/Ebi. It is a 13 W 6500k CFL over about 7.9 gallons of water. I pulled a quick one on Fluval and got a free one because the light bulb was burnt out upon arrival so I have two. I have had two lights running about 10 hours a day and I have had a lot of algae forming especially on my anubias nana leaves. I have a Paintball co2 hooked up to a glass diffuser that I turn on and off with the lights.

Is one light enough to support a carpet in this tank? I know we cant live and die by the watts per gallon rule but I think the light may not penetrate that deep. If one wont work is two lights over kill?

If I remember, the single light would put you at low/med lighting. two would certainly put you in the higher light catagory. What type of algae? and what are you doing for fertilizers?

I believe it is brown algae and it is covering my anubias nana leaves and some of my micosword. The tank has been up for about a month to a month and a half.

I dose excel twice a week.

The Diatoms will go away with time, you can wipe it off the leaves every couple days to help keep the plants healthy. I think there is a high silicate amount in the background. I have the same problem at the moment. Amano shrimp love diatoms, if that is a species you would like.

the BGA would be contributed to Nitrates bottoming out. I would start a good fert. regimen such as EI (see fert. section of the forum) and dose for the 10 gal quantities.
