Temporary fish problem

So I have a small problem.. this new 4 g I started needs fish else things will be going south soon. I already decided on Celestial Pearl Danios, thought I had them then found out someone bought them out from under me. Now I have a bare tank and need to stock it with something while I find CPD's. Anything I put in there needs to make nice with all the plants, be able to handle no tank heater and once I can get the CPD's I can move them to one of my larger 5 or 6.6 g tanks I have in service already. Here is the rub, both tanks have male bettas so whatever I choose needs to play nice with either or. The 5 is a deeper tank, the 6.6 is a more shallow bookshelf and I think has more places to hide etc. Any thoughts? Whatever I get, I am stuck looking at PetSmart so I cannot get some super uber rare species of fish. Thanks for the help!

It's not whether the new fish will play nice with the betta, it's whether the betta will play nice with new fish. Any new fish will be a gamble. Perhaps bottom feeders will stand a better chance?

yeah but what bottom feeder can I get for this soil based, white sand cap tank that I can put into a totally different Activ Flora substrate tank.. the other is more of a gravel if you are familiar with Activ Flora. Great stuff by the way..

I recommend that you consider using White Cloud Mountain Minnows. They are inexpensive, hardy, attractive, usually don't need a tank heater (i.e., they like cooler water than do many other "tropical fish"), don't damage plants, can easily outswim bettas :-)... and they are often available at PetSmart.
