My First Nano Tank Question

Hi all,

I just got myself a new 5 gallon tank (ADA Mini M). It's my first nano tank and it's my first time trying out this dry start method. Eventually, I plan to add one Otocinclus and probably two Amano shrimps. I'd also like to add some Ember Tetras, but not sure how many I can add? I'm hoping to add 6 since they're tiny, but I'm not sure if that's too many since I will already have the oto and shrimps.

Thanks!

Most would say the oto should be in a larger tank. /shrug

Are you putting the oto in because you really like it or just for algae cleaning? If the former then you probably are maxed out with the oto and the shrimp, if the latter, then dump the oto. 2 amano shrimp will do a great job cleaning a 5 gallon. Add some ramshorn snails and they will do a good job cleaning your glass. Then you could add the 6 ember tetras without much issue.

Ah I see. That makes sense..plus I think I read somewhere that otos are community fish. I think I will go for the ramshorn snail route. Thanks for the response!

I keep 2 otos in a 5gal, they seem fine. Been around for 4 months at least, never fed them anything since day 1. Their tummies are round, guessing they have lots to eat in my tank.
