Hey guys!

I copied what I wrote in my introduction here because I'll probably update it.

So I got my first aquarium last week for my birthday, and I'm starting the stuff with the enthusiasm of a complete newbie.

I'll try to share the evolution of it with you and of course I'm open to all suggestions.

Material:
- 25 x 25 x 30 cm aquarium (18 l which is roughly 4.75 gallons)
- light: chihiros a251 (waiting to receive it)
- filter: oase biomaster 250 thermo (waiting to receive it, I know it's massive overkill :-))
- filtration masses: I bought 1 kg of biohome ultra media.
- glass lily pipes for nano (bought it on aliexpress, still waiting for it)

Hardscape:
- tropica substrate
- dennerle gravel for shrimps
- gathered rocks from my garden that I boiled for 30 min
- bought a small piece of wood in the local fish store

Plants:
- java moss (glued on the wood)
- anubias gilletii
- lilaeopsis brasiliensis
- egeria densa
- vallisneria spiralis tiger

While waiting for the chihiros led and the oase filter, I use the crappy ones that came with the tank.

I set it up on friday with 10 ml of sera bio nitrivec. Water is a little green, I plan to test it next weekend. In the meantime I'll do some partial water changes twice a week. I put a picture of it.

For now I'm not completely sure what I'll get to populate it with livestock. A few shrimps if possible but I might have put some rocks containing quartz in the tank and I heard it's not good for them. A few nano fishes if possible and if not, a betta.

Thanks for reading!

So I'll tell you what I plan and if you see a bad idea let me know.

So firstly I think I will add duckweed for several reasons:
- it seems nice to me,
- it will massively consume nitrates I guess
- it might partially prevent evaporation from the tank
- I think shrimps will appreciate it.

I'll try to make a floating ring to keep it on the peripheral part of the surface in order to avoid hiding light to other plants.

Why could it possibly be a bad idea?
- filter flow might make a mess
- it might need more maintenance
- it might impede other plants growth.

Any experience about duckweed?
Any idea to build the floating ring?

Just received the chihiros led a251. It makes a hell of a difference! I can see a lot of details that I've never seen before.

About the led itself, I was pretty suprised about the quality of the stuff. Just one screw that didn't fit well the hole.
Except that, it's all good.

Hello, just put my filter oase biomaster 250 on the tank. I kept the original filter for now and I'll use both of them for a week or two.
It seems that some of the plants aren't doing very well. To be confirmed.
I ordered a test kit to know when my tank will me ready for livestock.
I think I'll go for a betta and a few shrimps.

Plus it seems that I have some algae growing on the leaves of some other plants.

I'm planning to test my water soon (waiting for the test kit to come in the mail)
Any advice before testing?
