2.5 gallon nano planted

I am setting up a 2.5 gallon nano and need advice on the setup I was thinking
- AZOO Mignon 60
- marina 10 watt heater
- finnex stingray I would rather not the clip on one (however it is out of stock on amazon)
- some sort of planted substrate (open to suggestions)
- most likely dragon stone
- plants suggestions needed
- starting with orange rilli shrimp

Thanks my only plan so far also I want co2 but not yeast but the cheaper the better without loosing too much quality preferably under 100$

I'm setting up a Spec lll which is 2.6 gal. I'm trying Fluval Stratum for the first time as substrate since I'll be housing shrimp, Endler's, and Nerites.

Plants include Monte Carlo, Mini Hydrocotyl, Anubis Nana Petite, a Crypt, and Acorus Pusillus.

Undecided on my shrimp, but it's early in the setup.

Thanks so much for the info. Are you keeping the stock light or upgrading it. Also do you plan on doing co2 if not how are you getting your plants specifically the Monte Carlo to grow

The newer stock light is supposed to be pretty good. I'll be dosing Seachem Fluorish Excel instead of trying to manage a CO2 tank. Every tank I do is usually one big experiment, so we'll see how this works out (!)

Be careful with those non-adjustable Marina heaters, some will run far too warm... They are best used with an external thermostat of some sort. I'd rather go to a 25W adjustable like a Hagen or Hydor, and usually do in smaller tanks. Always go by the readout from your thermometer and adjust accordingly.

Monte Carlo grows well under the stingray clip on over a 2.5 gallon. I had a full carpet of it under those conditions. Why don't you like the clip on? I like being able to move the light out of the way quickly but still have light to work on the tank.

I like Controsoil for substrate. I looked at Finnex stingray before too but their smallest one is 10". My tank is only 8x8x8 (2.5 Gallons).

Here's the tank. It's a low tech... =)

Looks great.

The standard 2.5 gallon is 12 inches wide so the 10 inch Finnex fits it well.
