My first Jarrarium 4 gallon walstad
I have a 'grow' light in a basic lamp above it I put on for 12 hours a day. I purposely have not filled it all the way with water yet because I am trying the emersed strategy which allows the emersed tips of the plants to breathe CO2 from the air. After they finish the melt stage and create new growth I will fill it all the way to the top. The hope is to have NO hardware at all, just the plants but I'm experimenting with an empty gallon jar of water and a seedling heat mat (meant for growing garden veggies) to see if I can use it as an external heater under the glass but I am not sure how the temp of the water will be effected so I have not used it on my walstad yet. Substrate is Missouri clay(microwaved in boiling water first) mixed with sinking vermiculite capped with an inch of red river sand from exo terra.
Flora list: Pygmy Chain Sword, DHG, Dwarf Sag, Lindernia rotundifolia, Red Flame Sword, Crypto parva, and lastly Lobelia Cardinalis which I am nervous about because I can not find anything about it in aquariums, only terrestrial with red flowers.
Will it grow emersed out the top? I hope. Please tell me if any of these plants are a terrible idea. I think they love their new soil because it has only been two days and they are growing new roots. I plan to dose iron and excel in the future.
