The stock light is okay for low light plants. Personally me I’d go with a finnex planted plus cc. It won’t break the bank and has very high par on the spec. I’m using two of these on my two spec tanks and they are awesome

I swapped out the stock light for a current usa satellite plus pro, which is more than enough to grow anything in the fluval spec v.

Then I went full stupid and bought an ai prime freshwater. immense overkill for the spec v. Will likely use the prime for my new larger tank and use the current usa on the spec v again.

there are 2 rules to success in life.
rule 1 - don't tell people everything.

I upgraded my Spec V to the finnex planted plus CC and ran with that for about half a year before the spec started leaking at a seam and I upgraded to a 10g so I could keep using the same light fixture.

My spec was run with pressurized co2, so it wasn't too much light, but fixtures that can be adjusted like the finnex and the fluval, etc etc would all "work" once you find the right amount of light for what plants and fertilizer you have.

My tank journal.

There are two different lights you may get with that tank, I had one spring a leak right after getting it and when they sent the replacement the light was trash... I returned the "new" light with the broken tank and kept the original one I had. It grew Glossostigma well enough (only carpet I've put in that tank) and has been more than enough for any thing else I've added... Crypts, bacopa, rotala, some small sword vars for get them started for other tanks, and a bunch of other stuff... I've never taken this tank high tech and would definitely upgrade the light if I did.
