New lighting for 10g tank

Hey all. So I've currently got a superfish home 40 with a 7w led which is fine for low light plants but I'm looking for a nice dwarf hairgrass carpet.
I know my first task is to get an upgrade in lighting, I was looking at the new fluval nano 3.0 but I'm unsure about light coverage as my tank is 17 inches wide.
I'm really after an automated set up so the lights are on during the day and moonlight on the night.
I was considering diy but not sure how much I trust myself with electronics.
So any ideas on a good lighting setup for a 17 inch wide, 10 gallon planted tank?
Thanks all
