Fluval spec v light upgrade+dry start method

Hello, I’ve just started scaping my fluval spec v. For substrate I’m using a little bit of seachem onyx sand. For scape I’m using some sticks that fell from a maple tree and maybe some rocks. I still haven’t boiled or pealed them. I’m interested in growing a small carpet in the front of the tank and that’s why I’ve been reading about the dry start method. Also, I’m wondering if you guys recommend a light that can grow plants better than the stock one, unless the stock one is good.

Thank you for reading.

Do you have an Ikea nearby? They sell a floodlight style grow light that's just reds and whites and I've been using it to supplement my 10g tank lighting. (Finnex 24/7 cc) And the areas that I point the Ikea light grow - faster, bigger and redder than any area I'm not supplementing with this light.

I was originally using it to have extra light time for some of my houseplants, but with summer here it got put in an architect lamp ($10 ikea) and I use it to blast my Monte Carlo and pearlweed with extra high light. 5 minutes after tank lights on and the area under the grow light is pearling the rest of the day - you can almost see the carpeting plants growing through the day. And the Ludwigia that the light 'cone' hits is turning a lovely red color - unlike the Ludwigia powered by the finnex alone.

Edit: I'm considering getting a second light and architect lamp so I can do this to more of the tank at once.

My tank journal.
