2.5 gallon: first nano attempt

Iíve done several larger planted tanks before, but Iíve never done a nano tank. My parents moved recently and I found an old 2.5 gallon aquarium that none of us seemed to remember ever using. So, while Iím waiting to get my 75 gallon tank going, I decided to try a nano.

Itís got a simple sponge filter, under-gravel heater, and a COODIA LED light on a timer. Used some extra ADA Aquasoil Amazonia that Iíve had set aside for my 75 for the substrate. Just got my plants today: Cryptocoryne lutea, Anubis barteri v. nana, and some Java Moss.

Once itís cycled and everything has settled in, itíll be home to a small colony of RCS.

Iím hoping everything goes well.

A little over a month now, the tank is cycled, and today I added eight Red Cherry Shrimp. They seem to love the set-up, and have been very active so far. All the plants are growing, and the Java Moss is starting to spread quite nicely.

Very nice. Do you think there is enough food in the tank in order for them to breed? Is that the goal? how often do you water change with this bioload. Do you plan on adding additional livestock?

There was quite a bit of algae in the tank a few days ago when I put the shrimp in, but they've already eaten a lot of it. I will supplement their diet with some commercial shrimp food.

Not sure if or when I'll add any more shrimp, but if they breed I'll be happy.

I'm going to try and keep the water changes to a minimum. Maybe 10% once a month or something.
