Tore everything out of my Spec V and started over kind of :p
Frustrated with diatoms and lighting issues for the past few months. My tank came with a Hidoli 13.9 watt led light bar that Google cannot seem to find any info about. (Mr. Aqua? Anyway, the sticker on it is all in japanese, I know it says 13.9w) I've been growing nothing but diatoms and melting S Repens and melting Moneywort. EI dosing and running pressurized co2, eco complete substrate with diy root tabs. Tank has been running for 6 months, which I know is young, but I've never had a hard to manage tank like this in a Long time. I've had numerous 20 gallon long tanks that have been a cakewalk.
Sick of fighting brown sludge covering everything and stunted growth, I stopped at the Wet Spot in Portland last night and grabbed some Glosso and Ludwigia and asked for a generous handful of duckweed.
Tossed everything into the tank to float last night, then spent my morning today rescaping and re-lighting the tank. Now I have a 27 watt 6500k 4 pin "happy lamp" on the left and a 32 watt 6500k spiral cfl in a desk lamp on the right. I shadowed the salvagable moneywort and repens with a giant chunk of wood so it doesnt get sunburnt, lol. The salvagable moneywort and repens got a peroxide bath which cleared up all the diatoms.
(The Hidoli light will now serve me illuminating some house plants)
The plant root on the far right is Pothos clipped to the back of the tank - grows about 1/2 inch of root every day.
So now that I have harnessed the power of two Sun's to blast this tank into submission, I gleefully sat today watching the Glosso pearl like mad.
My tank journal.
