Help!! monosolenium tenerum dying
I planted a 12 gallon tank 16 days ago but am having a few issues.
For starters one of my 2 monosolenium tenerum plants is turning brown, the other one is doing just fine and they came from the same tropica 1-2 grow pot.
I am also suffering from a film on the surface of the water that has a rainbow sheen to it like an oil slick. I have siphoned it out numerous times but it just keeps reforming. When I touch the surface after not removing it for a few days it leaves white stuff on my fingers.
My third issue is that my Nitrate levels are practically off the charts high. I have zero ammonia or nitrites and have tested my tap water but it does not have any nitrates. My PH is also pretty low, about a 6.
I have a kessil tuna sun light (high lighting)
I?m using CO2
I am not yet using fertz as tropica suggests not to until 3 weeks after planting as the plants come with a ?booster pack? of fertz. I have however been using ADA green gain with water changes.
I hava ADA amazonia as substrate.
I have no fish yet but I do have about 8 amano shrimp which seem to be doing just fine (although they do appear to be uprooting my hc which is quite frustrating)
I am suspecting the ADA green gain may be the culprit of the high levels of nitrates? Maybe?
I have attached a photo of my brown monosolenium and of the healthy one. Also one of the filmy rainbow surface.
Thanks for any help or feedback!
(Sorry if this was confusing this is my first post on the planted tank)
