Fluval spec v

Finally got my spec cycled. First tank in 5 years, been out of the hobby a while. Adding blackworms this week, rcs the next week and will give them both a month to settle and hopefully reproduce before adding a dwarf puffer. Wanted to thank everyone here for helping me get back into the hobby, great resources on this forum

You may want to give RCS more than a month, they're gonna need it with a puffer.

Don't ask for advice. Ask for information, gather lots of information from different reliable sources. Then use the information to make your own advice.

After Thanksgiving my tank filled in quite a bit while I was gone. Tank is getting over run with snails, may get a puffer this week to help combat the bio load

I am, at first I was worried it wouldn't be enough, but it's been doing great so far. No co2 in my tank. Just ei dosing and excel

That is one nice looking tank - well done!!! I love it.

Would you not mind to list the plants that you have?

I picked up the same tank last week at $89, but returned it because I thought I had the older generation of...and I found out later that I had the new version after all with better lighting....by then, I didn't repurchase as changed my mind since I didn't have a stand for it of that width.

Thanks for the information:

I might 'steal' some of your plant ideas

How goes the Dwarf Puffer? I never had one before, and maybe I might consider one...will need to research it's preferred water parameters first and any special needs.

Thanks

It's going well, He's clearly fat and happy all the time. He is nipping at the shrimp, and picking them off one by one. I had a dp 10 years ago and he was shrimp friendly, so I was hoping this one would be as well. Dwarf puffer's are fun little fish. They're fairly personable and easy to keep.

Sorry to hear about the shrimp. I take it then that each puffer has their own personality type - the one you had before was definitely friendly if they got along with your shrimps.

I'm definitely going to consider this as soon as my tank is ready. Will need to determine what tankmates would go best with the guy. Are you planning on removing the shrimps?

Did you do anything to the filter compartment?

I found a link that made it more Betta friendly and he made the good point that the filter compartment will make the water toxic. I was wondering if you did anything to combat it.

I drilled holes in my tubing but I am gonna need to up the pump since the outflow isn't what I want. But I need to cover the intake with a filter sponge first since there is a Betta in the tank. I am trying to avoid buying a bubbler- I can't think of the word.

We did a gingerbread house and it failed- miserably like it does every year. My brain is fried.
