10 gallon Betta tank

So I just got a ten gallon tank all set up and got a betta (I have a seeded sponge filter -BactoSurge 10G- coming later today just a few hours of no filter should be fine). I'd like to put some other stuff in the tank, I know snails and shrimp are generally fine (I dont plan on shrimp until plants get larger and/or I add moss). Could I add 6 pygmy corys and be okay (Aqadvisor says in theory I can)? Any other fish I could possibly add without super stressing eachother out?

Iíd be somewhat concerned about a small Cory group on the large gravel substrate. It doesnít look like it would be terribly barbel friendly.

I would say look at some of the smaller Tetras or micro Rasboras. Ember Tetras, Mosquito/Chili Rasboras, and the like. Dwarf Pencilfish could be neat as well, but I havenít looked hard enough to find them at a LFS in my area.

Yea pea pebbles kinda skirt that edge of acceptable size and shape gravel for Cory's. My betta, as of now, isn't too colorful so tetras or rasbs could be a decent option, thanks.
