Help with 5 gallon aquascaping

Hi folks,

This is my first attempt at a nano shrimp tank, it's on my desk at work . I'm great at keeping shrimp, snails, fish and plants alive, but I'm no artist. I clearly need some help here as the monte carlo and java moss are overtaking the tank! Also, the java fern lace in the back is putting down roots, but hasn't grown in literally months. I'm determined to get it to grow.

Livestock:
3 ember tetra
11 red rili shrimp
1 billion ramshorn snails

Plants:
Java moss
Monte carlo
Java fern lace

Lights:
Finnex FugeRay Planted+
4 hours on, 1 off, 4 hours on every day

CO2:
DIY, 1 bubble every 2 seconds

Water params:
Ammonia, nitrites: 0 ppm
Nitrates: ~5 ppm
Ca: 80 ppm
Mg: 10 ppm
pH: ~7.5
Temp: 75-78F

I'm *very* open to suggestions on how to improve the aesthetics of the tank. Thanks!

I agree it looks quite nice already but if I could change something it would be the moss (Personal choice I hate Java moss). I might go with flame moss? and add some staurogyne repens? Take my suggestions with a grain of salt I am aquascape challenged.

Almost sounds counterproductive but have you tried partly shading the java ferns?

I've found with my java ferns especially the smaller plantlets that partly shading seems to make them grow a bit better. Likely since they are a lower light plant with the brighter lights they don't "feel" the need to get taller or much wider. Also while I'm thinking of it. Did those drop off the mother leaf or pulled off ?

I would add something with height to the tank. Maybe some green or red stems where the rock is or to the right of the rock.

Thanks for the nice comments! Agree about something higher to the right side...I have some ludwiga in my home tank, but not sure how it would do in this setup with the hard water I keep for the snails and shrimp. Will give it a shot
