Moving nano tank, do I need to do anything?

It's the end of the year, and it's time to move my nano to a friend's for a few days. I'm in the process of cleaning it at the moment, but do I need to do anything specific? I plan to drain the tank completely, and transport all vertebrates to the friend's and my place via bag, and then refill using half parts new location water and half parts old location water.

I'm concerned about the substrate though. I'm using FSS, and I'm scared that moving it will make a giant mess, as since I have a nano, there's no way for me to vacuum the substrate. I've only got some barely rooted carpet plants, and vallisneria growing rooted, so is it ok for me to just uproot and rinse out the fss then replant?

So many fish/plants/inverts to keep, not enough aquaria.

Drain to an inch or two of water and transport like that. Dont pull plants, bag fish, shrimp can stay in the tank. Get a 5 gallon jug and try to use as much old tank water as possible... 80% would be better. Definitely dont pull plants or rinse substrate... it will just make a mess and affect the stability of your tank.
guvmarley and guvmarley like this.

I'm planning on moving a 2g tank myself so thought this thread would be interesting, I'd probably something like Roshan suggested, keep 1~2 inches of water, and try to put as much water as possible in a big bottle or something so I only do 30~40 water change max, gladly my tank is still fishless just finished cycling it. added 1 shrimp in it just to see how he does.. will be adding more once I do the moving.
