Underwater internal vs canister

Hey guys,

I have a 3 gallon rimless bow front tank that is going to live on my desk at work. It currently has an internal filter that came with it, but I'm not liking it. It's pretty huge, the intake is under the substrate, and the lights are built into it. I'm wanting to get a new filter and new lights all together.

I'm trying to decide whether I want to get an internal underwater filter or a canister filter. I don't want a HOB because it would have to go on the back and then it would be pushed too far forward away from the wall of my cubicle. I was quickly looking at a Fluval U1 and an Eheim 2211. Any insight or other recommendations? I am a little worried about the size of the U1. If it's too big, then that defeats my purpose of getting a slimmer filter. Another worry is noise. My current stock filter is dead silent, which I love. I do work in an office, so I need it to be quiet.

What would you guys recommended? Thanks!

Get the azoo mignon HOB... it's literally less than a 2" projection of the back of your tank, runs dead silent, and filters these nano tanks perfectly - I own 4. There is no internal filter that will look unobtrusive in a tank that size, and where will you hide a canister? That has to take up more space than a HOB and would be serious overkill IMO. If you go the canister route maybe try the Tom rapids mini canister or the Eheim you mentioned. GL!

I've been happy with the Zoo Med Nano 10 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Easy to disconnect for cleaning and absolutely dead silent (very important in my cubical world at work).
