CO2 Question

How many bps should I be using on dwarf baby tears? My tank is a 20gal long. The temp is around 68-72f. I've been aiming for 1bps but idk what that really means. I also have fish and am new to using CO2. I don't have a big system just disposable 45gram cartridges.

What lighting do you have?

Use a drop checker or look for pH drop of 1 (measure pH before CO2 is on then 1 hour after it is on) to more accurately gauge how much CO2 you are pumping in. BPS is not a very accurate measure.

Okay if I got the pH checker what should I be looking for 7 to 6?

2 T5HO bulbs getting about 4,200 lux at the baby tears (hoping that is about 84 par).

P.s. I'm also dosing all the supplements in the seachem line except for their pH stuff since I don't have a digital gage yet but I can grab one if it's going to help. Aiming for a dGh of 4-5, I heard the tears like that. Just currently trying to see if I have the CO2 close enough or what. Should be a 11 or 12 hour photo period.

Thanks I'll experiment with that idea this week.

Wait I was thinking wouldn't dKh matter in this test? Isn't dKh a buffer for pH that resist change?

HCO3 concetration is part of KH which is a buffer, but I wouldn't worry about it. Most people just aim for a 1 point pH change.
I personally use a drop checker with a 4dKH solution and watch how my shrimp respond as well.

I finally borrowed a meter. My pH basically went from 6.8 to 6.0 with the CO2. So that seems good but I guess I could turn it up more.

CO2 Question

A 0.8 change is sufficient IMO, so you should be smooth sailing. Just a note if your KH is really high, like IDK maybe 8+ then you may not be able to achieve a 1 point drop in pH without pumping in deadly amounts. I doubt your KH is high considering your GH and pH but just something to note.
