First Planted Tank - Cadlights 4G

Hi All,

This is my first planted tank, I've had reef tanks for a long time but no tanks in the past few years. Just planned to chronicle my journey here.

Attached is day 2 of my dry start.

Tank: Cadlights 4G
Light: Nanobox Mini Flare Plus with Bluefish Controller

That's going to look quite nice when everything grows in. Nice job on the scape! And that looks like a good water level for the dry start, the only thing you may need to do because of the slope is give the HC at the top of the hill a little spritzing with water every now and then cause it might dry out faster than the lower part of the hill.

My suggestion too would be to break up the clumps of HC a bit more, they'll fill in much faster.

Keep up the good work!

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Yes I knew I would have to do some misting. I'm misting about twice a day, mostly around the top to middle to keep it wet.

As you can see everything appears to be doing well, this is about a week ago. It took a week after the start for the HC to really start growing as they seemed to adjust to the strength of my light. Everything is taking off now and I have new growth daily. I've had no mold/rot or pests which I attribute to the laboratory grown HC from the Tropica 1-2-Grow

I plan on flooding about a week or so before Christmas when I start my vacation, which is perfect timing since I am still waiting for a few of my CO2 items to be delivered.

Your first planted tank and you're trying out HC brave man I'm about to start my first one in a few days when I get my last bit of equipment. I really want to do HC also but kinda nervous from what everyone is saying that it is a bit harder to grow so I'm thinking I might do Monte Carlo.. But your tank is looking amazing with the growth you are getting so I may be willing to give it a shot looks like your doing pretty well with it

Most of the equipment is from Green Leaf Aquariums, the CO2 tank and ph monitor are from aquariumplants.com

I flooded on Wednesday and so far so good. Figured out how to set the CO2 up and ph monitor. I'm doing daily water changes since the water is so cloudy. Ammonia is low but my nitrites and nitrates are medium to high. I thought I would have had an ammonia spike to begin with, but perhaps it is still to come.

That's a good looking tank! What intensity are you running your Flare? I have one also (on a 10g half moon) and am always curious what other folks are doing. Looking forward to updates.
