bedroom nano setup

ok i want to setup a nano in my bedroom but im worried about the smell of water in the room. my gf hated it when i had my 55 in our old bedroom but i think if i reduce the tank size down to a 2.5 i wont have to worry any suggestions should i just go for it and deal with the wrath that shall insue?

There shouldnt be a smell issue at all if you do weekly water changes and or use carbon. But either way, i think a smaller tank will have less odor, i have a ten and a 7g in my room and no foul smells :P

Smell? I have a 10g right on my night stand and have never experienced any foul odors, or any odor at all.

smell usually comes from over feeding, or decomposing fish food, what seems to happen is people miss the water and "feed" the outer rim on the tank where the glass hood sits...

If everything is working/running properly, there should be no bad odors if any at all.

I have a 65G in my bedroom that houses a musk turtle/stinkpot, and there still is no smell.
I do 2x a week water change and use a canister filter.
If there was a smell issue concerning tanks, my house would stink as I have 8 tanks ranging from 80G and down. And I have some stinky reptiles!

In my experience, the smell results from a stagnant tank water with little water movement. I've realized this when my filter broke for a few days (while I was away).
