Fluval spec 5 lighting

Hello, so I recently acquired 2 spec v's for 5$ a piece. Only thing is neither had working lights. After a lot of research I found that the stock lights were poorly made as it is and at a 45$ price point I figured I'd pass. Now I'm on a very tight budget. So I've been looking for an acceptable light replacement that would be under 20$ for each. So far this is what I came across.
[Ebay Link Removed] 18" White Blue LED Light Extendable Bracket 2 Mode Aquarium Fish Tank Fowlr | eBay[/url]

It says it runs at 6500k with 425lumens and 33 leds at .1watt a piece.

Will this be enough to grow low light plants and sustain mid light plants?

If not don you guys have any cheap alternatives?

Probably. They don't have any red spectrum, but you probably don't need it for low light plants. The spec is so shallow as it is that you don't need a ton of light.

Why not just run a cfl in a desk lamp?

Man! That is totally worth a try!!! That's cheaper than buying a desk light around here!

Tried that, a desk lamp doest give an adequate spread of the light without it being raised very high which then sends the light into my room more than the fish tank

It'll probably be good enough for low light plants. What about these generic leds from Amazon?

Multiple brands but same item, so you know they're going to be cheap lol

Love your tanks and they will love you back

I have owned a Fluval Spec before. You can use a desk lamp, but just make sure it's either raised very high above the tank or water-resistant as the minute splashes from the water can knock out the lights easily. I also noticed that if the light is too close it evaporates the water like crazy, which left unsightly hard water marks along the top of my tank.

Just out of curiosity, what are you keeping in it?

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I saw them but it's not long enough the tank is 20" long and that light is 5in long so it wouldn't extend correctly to cover the whole tank
