16 inch shrimp bowl

This is my first shrimp bowl. So far I am pretty pleased with how things are going.

16" x 14" bowl
Fluval Stratum substrate
Fluval 20g co2 kit
38 par LED 6500k dimmed to about 50%

plants
10-15 stems of rotala indica
chain sword
monte carlo
crypt parva
anubias nana

no shrimp or fish yet

this is a day 1 picture just after filling.

Bump: Day 3 the water has cleared up a lot. All the stems and most of the other plants have all straightened up towards the light!!! I am starting to get some white-ish fuz on the spider wood. ive always had wood in some kind of tank with plecos or a clean up crew. In this bowl im not sure what to do to get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Hey that's pretty cool! I've always admired planted bowls.

Not sure if I'd like to see shrimp in such a small bowl, but some horned bumble bee nerites would look neat.

Its actually not that small. Its 16" in diameter its like 8 gallons. I thought that was big enough for shrimp.

Little update.

So i think the stems are actually rotundifolia not rotala indica. Can anyone confirm this?

Also the white fuz coming out of the drift wood is getting worse. Will this get better with time?

Gonna test my water tomorrow and see what my levels look like. I wanna get something moving around in this thing!

Thanks for reading

My mopani driftwood slimed for about 4 weeks. I used a turkey baster to suck the slime off every couple of days.

I tested the water in the bowl. still has not cycled. The drift wood has stopped getting slimey-er, lol but its still pretty slimey. i sucked a lot off when i was doin a water change. it helped some but now its kinda long and stringy. water is super clear and the plants are all growing.

Can anyone that uses the fluval 20g CO2 kit give me some advice. Im having some problems with my co2 output. I get it dialed in at like 2 bubbles a second. Leave for work, when i come home the bubbles are more like 1 bubble every 10 seconds. is this common?

In a lot of posts i see people talk about plants "pearling" in CO2 rich tanks. I do not ever see any pearling but i do have a good mist coming out of the diffuser, when the bubble counter is showing 2 bubbles a second. Is this only common in bigger aquariums or can plants in a bowl pearl too? (its an 8 gallon bowl)

Im still not sure what the stems are. i bought them as rotala indica, but have sense seen similar looking plants called rotundifolia? They are really neat though. when the lights go out the leaves at the end of the stem close up almost like a flower. and when the lights come on they start opening up. The first time i saw them closed up i thought something was wrong.

thanks for reading. No photos cause not much has changed.
