3-5 gal water jug

I bought an old water jug basically a big mason jar type deal holds i believe 3-4 gals not quite sure the actual volume but i was wondering whats the best way to go about cleaning the tank i know i can use vinegar and water but would that kill everything inside?? also with drift wood is boiling the only option and does it matter if the pot is used for cooking lol thanks for any answers

You could use a bleach/water solution. That would kill 99% of anything that could possibly be on the glass. Then rinse very well fill the tank with water and a capful of seachem prime. Stir and rest for a few hours and repeat once or twice and your tank will be sterile for what it will be used for. Or just use a nice hot tap water, should also be fine.

The pot shouldn't matter but I've never been fortunate enough to have driftwood small enough to boil. My tap water is 120* on hot so I just fill a 5g bucket or a larger tote bin with super hot tap water and soak the wood in that. I haven't had any problems doing that. A heavy rock may be needed to keep it submerged until it becomes water logged. The hot water will open up the pores of the wood to help soak up water also.
