Reefkeepers planted 2.5

before goin to salt ive kept FW tanks , i kept africans, amazon cichlids, rainbows, mixed community tanks etc,....

but my 2.5 is the longest lived FW ive had. its probably 3 years old,if not older and its nothing fancy....just java fern and moss for my betta

however its getting close to the time to send my betta on that great adventure to the toilet underworld....

hes not doin as well as id like, he lays around alot now....i guessin swimbladder or liver problems....it sucks, cuz hes traveled across country with me...survived that and a couple heater failures.....he will be missed...my oldest fish was an 8 year old Gourami....

when he finally goes, the tank is getting an overhaul.

-specs
2.5 aga
red sea nano filter, no media
25 or 50 visotherm heater, not sure b/c its about 10 yrs old,
15 watt cf bulb in incandesent 2.5 hood..
florite substrate some driftwood and river stones

-livestock
one crowntail betta
hitcher snails
java fern and moss

-possible mods
i might go 2x15 watt cf in the stock hood, or get one of those fancy lights everyone uses.

pics to come!

So you thinking about saltwater, or another fw adventure? If it is salt, pico tanks are very popular and aren't too terribly hard to care for. Just a lot of water changes and checking water parameters. Live sand and rock will probably be needed. Many like to keep sexy shrimp or tiny blennys with a few riccs or zoas in tanks of that size. Very cool! Youtube and nanoreef.com are awesome idea sites! Good luck!

There is no law that says you have to have one or the other. You can have one of each! Pico reefs do take a lot more time and constant looking after but they are really a lot of fun.

thanks for the replies!

i grew up with FW. ive been reefing for 9yrs, and currently im rockin a biocube 8 with 2x27watt pc and some other mods

ive kept salt picoreefs before, and top offs are the hardest, an autotop off will keep things stable in those tanks along with the weekly water changes...

i just wanna do more with the little planted tank...
