Question new tank - water parameter concerns

Last night I set up my new 38 gallon tank with filtered pool sand and a couple of pieces of driftwood (seeding from established tank). To commence a fishless cycle, I added 1/3 cup of pure ammonia (based on advice to use about a 1/2 cup for a 55-gal. tank). I had forgotten to buy a test kit so I wasn't able to test my parameters until today.

First, I tested the pH in the tank water. It seems high. To eliminate other influences, I tested my water straight from the tap. The results were the same. I'm attaching photos of my pH and High Range pH results. I'm having trouble eyeballing it... 7.5? Based on my research this is higher than ideal, although not extreme. Should I expect this to be problematic? Should I try to adjust it?

Second, I tested the ammonia. I've also attached a photo of that test result. Thank goodness there are no fish in that tank. 8.0ppm or more! I guess 1/3 cup was a little much
