Stocking Help!

Hey all,

I have a heavily planted 18 gallon cube aquarium, currently have 3 ottos, and 5 neons as I’ve been mainly focused on the plants the past few months. Now that everything’s grown in very dense and thick I’d like add more fish!

Here’s a few ideas I had

5-10 more neons (10-15 total then, gettin these for sure)
These are the other few options I had in mind on top of the tetras...
1. 5-7 Harlequin Rasboras
2. 1-2 Chocolate Gouramis
3. 2 Honey Gouramis

All 3 fish considering, Harlequin Rasboras and Chocolate and Honey Gouramis require tank dimensions of 24" x 12."

The neons or other nano fish that stay under an inch are your best bet.

True Honey Gourami males max out at 1.5 inches; females grow slightly larger, so they should have more than enough room in a 14 g. The Trichogaster labiosa that are sold as honeys can grow up to 4", however.

A pair of Peacock Gudgeons would also be suitable.

Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?

If you like gouramis, look at sparkling gouramis, which might be better suited to this size tank. I like the peacock gudgeon idea also. These are great fish.

I had half a dozen harlequin Rasboras in a 10 gallon Hex aquarium for years and they did fine. Not sure the dimensions on your 18 gallon cube but I think they would be fine. Could go with lambchop (or pork chop) Rasboras instead (Trigonostigma espei). They are a bit smaller. Sparkling gouramis are neat fish too though.
