What species is this?

I went to my local pet store that i usually go to get some rare fish for my aquarium. They are pretty knowledgeable about their fish as well. I was looking in the tanks and i found this guy and i had to have him. The only thing was that on the glass where they write the prices and species, all that was on the glass was “Goby $7.99”. I found this quite strange because these guys have been in this business for years now and have had just about any aquarium fish known. I was gonna ask the guy what kind it was but the person who got my fish out was from the reptile area. So if anyone knows by chance, please tell me! It really bothers me not to know what kind of fish is in my own tank lol!

Ps not sure if this could help out or not but in the store he was sitting on the bottom moving like a goby and doing goby things. When i got him home, he hasn’t touched the bottom but has decided to swim around with my rainbow fish. This fish has me so puzzled lol!

Maybe a female peacock gudgeon? I have one and it acted like a goby in my Fluval Edge, now often swims mid-level in my 75.

Ditto on the empire gudgeon. They've been showing up at Petco recently. $7.99 is a bargain - I'd snap it up immediately!

Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?
