Ich treatment

I know there are plenty of posts on ich treatment. But I have been dealing with this one for over 8 plus days and it is finally being gone. I have put a heater in, plus medication. Initially I was doing just the medication but it got worse, so I put a heater in after the 5th day and it has helped so much!

The real question is, once all the white spots are gone. How long after can I take my heater out of the tank?! Or after I have finished dosing the medication?

Thank you

How many days elapsed between noticing Ich and then treating?
What are the active ingredients of the medication using?
Did you use at full dose?
How often did you change water while treating?

180 g. low tech w/ wild South American cichlids, corydoras eques, and African Congo riverine tetras.
60 g. low tech w/ F1 Alenquer pair /Stendker "Tefe" discus and wild Altum Angels
30 g. low tech w/ Wild Tucano tetras
30 g. low-tech African Biotope

1) I noticed ich within 2 days. I have been treating for over 8 plus days!

2) I am using Hikari ich which contains: malachite green and formaldehyde.

3) been dosing full dosage per bottle

4) changed 30 % water everyday while dosing the medication.

I would stop the heat treatment now. You should never use both heat and medication at the same time- especially with malachite green and formalin.
The lapse in time between the onset of the Ich parasite until when provided treatment was most likely why the medications didn't appear to be working. This parasite replicates ( completes its life-cycle) very quickly and its important to have these meds on hand if introducing new fish/plants or have a chance of cross-contamination between tanks that have an active infection.

Well at first I was using para something and that worked for the first day. Then I went with Hikari ich. Then used the Hikari med for several days and saw no improvement so I went with heat. Which has helped a lot. Thank you for your advice. I’ll stop heat asap.
