Micro bubbles?

I've got the dreaded micro bubble issue going on lately with my return. And it's a LOT too, looks like a soda can, and it's not CO2, which I wish it was.

Whats the best way to tackle this?

Sump is an ADHI Berlin Sump 45 Gallons. ADHI Berlin Sump 45 225 Gallons 36x16x18 Sump-45 @ Fish Tanks Direct

I got it used real cheap at my LFS, so it didn't come with ANYTHING, just the tank.

I made a little eggcrate stand for the media, and top to bottom, Marineland Blue filter pads (2), a fine polishing pad-very fine like felt, and then a bunch of bags of bio balls with the sponges inside of them I had leftover from my SW tank. Also my old media is floating around in the sump chambers as well in an attempt to seed the new stuff.

Any advice? Theres no vortex above the pump from what I can see, water is completely calm in the return chamber.

No anti-siphon hole on my return since the nozzles are at a level in the tank, that when the pump is cut, my sump doesn't overflow (tested many times to be sure.

Pump is a QuietOne 5000 pro.

Lava rock is in there to hold diffuser in place. The CO2 tubing my reg came with long ago is so thick it's hard to keep it where I want LOL.

How long has the pump been running? It's possible is just residual air in the return... Possibly a pin hole somewhere that's sucking air, you could try covering the end of the return and seeing if you spray water

Personally I'd run a higher water level and I'd also add bubble traps. That is likely your problem, the bubbles probably aren't diffusing before they get to the pump
