Underwater sealant

I have a Fluval Spec that I want to close the bypass on but the tank is already setup. Does anybody know a sealant that can be applied underwater? It doesn't even need to be sealant but something that can be applied underwater.

I don't think of any that would work underwater and be fish safe. All that comes to mind is something like duct plugs but those are nasty stuff and not for fish.
Not familiar with the bypass you mention so I can't see what the good solution might need.
Any way to form a mechanical seal like a metal plate and foam to make the tight seal?

That's what I was thinking. Everything I found said nontoxic when cured. I have a plastic sheet blocking flow but I know it's not water tight. I may use this as an excuse to rescape.

When I did mine I did it after the tank was set up. I just drained the water level below the bypass, hot glued it shut, then refilled. Took all of ten minutes. I did this 3 years ago and it still doesn't leak a drop through the bypass.

The bypass that is in the filter area I could do that but the one on the side of the tank is so low. I might be able to get away with it though. Thanks for the tip.
