I made an eggcrate lid for my tank and just sit the fan on top of it, ive got a canopy and there is one fan forcing air into the canopy and another blowing at the water.. I oversized everything and control the water temps via PWM output and it works great.

with your light that high an eggcrate lid would cast a grid shadow.. my light sits directly on the lid to bypass that issue.. id suggest you cut it to just the size of the fan and long enough to grab either lip.. could do the same thing with acrylic if you have the tools.

Are the current fans not doing good? I am using a similar (little better than yours) arrangement and its working good for me. There are two more months and the monsoons would be around. Why do you even want to make this permanent?

I remember their being a YouTube video on cooling a tank with a fan and he had a link to buying a fan that has a clip and a bendable neck that had the usb plug fitting. It also wasn't an eye sore. Just YouTube cooling a tank with a fan and I'm sure you will find what I'm talking about

i'd try to mount fans on light fixture. that way you wont have additional wires and stuff hanging out of tank.

+additional fans behind tank blowing on tanks back wount hurt. glass heat conductance is not that bad, you dont need to blow directly at water to cool it down to room temp.

also keep in mind that room temperature is theoretical limit, you can go lower than that with just fans
