Plumbing question

Hi guys. First post. New to planted tanks and have set up a low tech at my gfs house for her and now iv caught the bug

I'm building my own filter and wondered if anyone has ever connected clear flexible PVC tube to a Polyplumb push fit connector without the use of an insert?
I'm using 22mm connectors and my tube is 22mm outside but 16mm inside (to fit over my pump out) so the inserts don't fit. The plumbing will be outside of the tank so I obviously don't want any surprise leaks.

Has anybody done this or know if it would work?
Thank you

If I understand your problem correctly, I'd say you needto buy new hose. The cheap fix would be to use heat to allow the hose to stretch over the connector but 6 mm of expansion is A LOT and if it even worked, it would likely result in a surprise leak as soon as you stop worrying about it haha.

Beyond those options, all I can think of is finding some way to reduce the size of the connectors to fit your hose. Although, I suspect you would have to replace the push fit connectors.
