corkbark planter ledges

I want to keep the bottom of my tank open so I had the idea of attaching corkbark planters onto the back/side(s) of the tank. As in I would buy a corkbark tube, quarter it, and silicone it, creating a sort of half U shapes to fill with substrate and plants. My question is will the line of silicon and little weight of the substrate be enough to keep the corkbark in place and not have it pull off and float? Anybody have any real experience with submerged corkbark? Thanks!

The silicone fully dry should have no problem. It like holds huge panes of glass together under water pressure.
