High output nano Led light for under $15

Supplies

LED light from Harbor Freight 4 x $3.49 plus coupon for free one
4.5-6v DC power source 500ma or higher Free, had one laying around
Solder, small gauge wire, solder iron, hot glue, box to house it in

These lights are bright as hell, the entire set up illuminates my entire kitchen.
Using 3 aaa batteries, they work well with up to 6 volts. The lights are wired in parallel. The lights have 2 modes, flood and spot(the small circuit board) the button has a lead you need to jump to make both work at the same time. See image.
Plan on gluing this to a small black acrylic box and running it over my shrimp tank which has a crappy 12 led light now.

For small tanks where there is not a big concern with having lots of bells and whistles like colors adjustments, etc. they make a nice cheap light. I have a small orb project started that may wind up with those. I still have some other options in the mail but the Harbor Freight light is in the running. Rather than deal with the extra three, I just cut them off as they were not needed for my use.
Nice to see some "out of the box" thinking..

Side by side comparison with the aqueon evolve light it's replacing.
I think I might buy a dozen more and make a strip light for over both tanks.

These are just laid on the glass for the picture? It may change some when you move them up to mounted? Any thoughts on how you may be mounting them?
Are you planning to use the reflectors or ditch them. Since reading your post, I've been looking at my project and considering these more. I'm still waiting for the slow boat from China for the LED, etc. I ordered but may just go with these just to move things along.

Reflectors wont fit. plan on putting it in a box with reflective foil on the inside and it will be raised to about the height of the original, the light spread gets better at that height.

Too bad the reflectors don't fit. They are really good for what they do. Just no way to cut the edges, etc? Bummer.
Any way it looks like you are moving forward. I was all set to dig the light I had out of the drawer and see how it would fit. Turns out I now remember it worked really well for lights on a carousel and some yard post lighting for the second one!
With the design and board all worked out and a Dremel tool handy they are just too easy to convert to other projects so it's off to the store to get more?

They would fit if I didnt throw them out, lol. It was mainly because I glued them so close/over lapping each other.

Would using a gloss white paint work better than the silver reflector foil? Just a thought
