DIY Riparium hangers

I recently purchased some non-aquatic peace lilies. They were being sold as fully aquatic Brazilian swords. Long story short, they needed a new home! Here is a shot of them in the tank. They started to die immediately.

So I picked up a fridge storage container. Basically, just a clear acrylic tub. Any acrylic tub, pending size, will work. Mine is 4"x6"x14" and runs around $10.

I trimmed it down on 3 sides to about 3" tall instead of 6". I left the back at 6".

Instead of suction cups, which I also bought, I opted for a ledge to hold onto the tank since I have a rim. A heat gun, space block of wood, and some gloves made a quick bend. It is about 1" wide.

I then drilled a bunch of holes. I tried to make them uniform for visual effect, but it doesn't matter.

Here is a quick proof of concept. The tub hangs!

Back outside to clean up the edges and then wash it out. Here it is full of rock, inside of the tank.

The plants are planted and enjoying the bog setup much more than the submersed set up. The roots are in the tank water.

This is just a cheap DIY I wanted to share in case anyone ran into a similar issue.

Probably closer to $10 now that I think of it. I got it at the neighborhood Walmart Supercenter. I hang out in the clearance isles.

Yup! This is very true. They already have holes and suction cups. I, for whatever reason, was dead set on an acrylic tub though.

That was a really neat job with the heat gun on the bend. It takes some patience to get acrylic to bend that much without it looking like a piece of broken tempered glass.

Fwiw, I HATE suction cups and wouldn't trust them to hold something of this size over the long term.

Not quite as large, but the acrylic breeder/fry/frag containers would be pretty similar.

You can get decent size fry containers on amazon though. I saw some, but they are more cube than I would like. Also, they are more expensive.

I am a DIYer at heart. I mostly tinker with cars and wood workering though. I haven't had any need to come up with an aquarium idea before this haha. Hopefully there is more to come!

Thank you!

I hope someone will post their DIY here too. I hope it helps someone. At least it would give readers a couple more examples.
