What happened to cause it to stop working in the first place?

3 things off the top of my head.... just pouring my first cup of coffee... I'll do the best that I can.

1. Make sure that the impellar cover is installed correctly.
2. make sure thet the quick discconect is inserted all the way.
3. Make sure it is primed

What happens now when you turn it on? Do you hear anything?

A little more info might be helpful.

Oh and...Welcome to the board!!!!!

I did a water change about two months ago. With the water change I clean up the filter cartridges. After the cleanup, I refilled the filter and turned it back on. Then I heard sort of a "clinging" noise, as if you put a small piece of rock in a plastic container. I changed the impeller and it still does the same noise.

As you mentioned, I did 1 and 2. #3 I don't quite understand.

Thanks for the welcome, I have been to this site many times and finaly registered. I quite enjoy it. Happy Holidays.

#3 - Just wondering if you used the handle to prime the filter....

#3 yes, I used the handle to prime it. Any ideas on what is happening with it? It is still making the same sound and there is nothing inside the impeller hole/fitting. Should I open the filter?

Is there a ceramic shaft in the impellar hole? If there is...is it be broken? If it isn't, is it inserted all the way into the rubber end piece at the bottom of the impellar hole?

Just grasping at straws here........

I checked but it doesn't seem broken, and yes, the impeller was inserted all the way into the impeller socket.......sighs...

If there is no flow when the filter is turned on and primed, it can only be either a clog somewhere or the impeller assembly.

I am assuming that there is no clog. I would remove the impeller and while holding it by the magnet, spin the blades. Does it spin completely around with or without stopping? If it doesnt stop, it is broken and needs to be replaced.

The impeller stops when I try to push it, thus I imagine it is not broken. What now?
Thanks.
