Cutting Holes in Stand for Filter Hoses

My question is how have you done it? Do you just cut the holes, sand, and paint over it, or do you buy those rubber grommets to cover the hole that was cut. If the latter, where do you buy your grommets from?

I have always had my stand against the wall, so I have the holes on the side that is never visible. That meant I didn't have to be careful cutting the holes. I used hole saws, a jigsaw, and, once, as I recall, just a missing strip of the back panel.

Oh, I should clarify then. I meant from the top of the stand itself.

I would just use a holesaw or a forstener drill bit if you have one. Im not sure where you can get a rubber grommet.

The question is for aesthetics, do you cover the hole with a grommet or do you leave it as is and just paint over it.

You mean holes going through the top of the stand, up through the bottom of the tank, through bulkhead fittings? If so, they aren't visible unless you stick your head in the stand and look up. A rubber grommet in would fall out if on the bottom where it would show, but would stick up too much if on the top. Maybe I still misunderstand the question though.

How about a picture of this stand and a good description of exactly where the hole will go?

grommets can be found here:

come in circular and oval shapes. Thank Jason Baliban for the link I stole it off of his site.

I think I'm the 3rd one lost here...lol...If you're meaning holes as Hoppy describes, I see no need for any grommets.

All together now, "We are 4 little lambs who have lost our way. Baa, baa, baa....." Maybe that will help?

Seriously, I really don't understand where these holes will be and I am very interested in finding out, because I am always looking for ways to improve a stand.
