Resurrecting a bowfront

Hello all, this is my first post of hopefully many. I am asking for some advice.

I have been keeping tropical fish since I was about 8. I have been out of the hobby for a few years but recently picked up an 85 gallon bowfront that I was planning to make into a planted community tank. This was a craigslist purchase ($50, including stand and 28 gallon sump). The people I bought it off of were in the process of stripping the silicone out to re-seal the tank, but lost interest in the project.

I brought the tank home and started to work removing the silicone. However, I found some damage. There is a sizable chip (approximately 1" long, 1/4" high, and 1/8" deep. The panels are approx 1/2" thick.) located at the bottom front corner. In addition, someone went a little nuts with the razor and cut into the silicone between the panels. I am willing to tear the tank down to properly re-seal between the panels, but that chips concerns me. It looks like either the tank was dropped or something hit it as the bottom frame is broken in the area where the chip is located. I really rather not have a catastrophic failure in my future.

Is this tank salvageable?

I'm probably going to scrap this tank unless I come across a way to repair it. Online searches are suggesting the chip is in a bad place and likely to fail if I use the tank.

I called a local glass place today and was quoted around $100 for a replacement panel

Soooo....guess who just bought a Petco $55 special!
I'll post a new tank thread once I have something to post.
