DIY Slime - Is this related to the baking soda?

Okay, so I started using baking soda in my diy mixture this last batch as an experiment. Although I have never had any of the slime before, now there is a coating of a whitish gunk on the airstone going into the diy reactor. Is this a result of the baking soda? It is the only change I have made, and I was thinking this was the culprit.

It's the yeast. Comes and goes w/ different batches. Separate it w/ a bubble counter.

I have a 20oz bubble counter and the bottle looks relatively clear. I am just grossed out by it. Will the goop hurt the fish? The snails seem to love it...
