new diy 10g hood and mini stand

Finally built a 10g hood yesterday for my new 10g cherry tank. just used birch plywood scapes and moulding scrapes. the base is also plywood and used door casing around it. same thing around most windows and doors.
ill prime it today and put few coates of Krylon fusion spray paint on it in few days. its the only paint you can get wet and last. ill be putting a diy lighting system in of 2 10w spiral flouresent bulbs. i still need to make a diy refletor out of metal flashing this week to but alteast its half way there! not sure what color i want but probably will be black.
yes the hood is kinda tall lol,but dont want the lights to close to water!

newer 2009 pics
added a 3" vent hole in top hood for air and worked great.
havent made the flashing reflector yet just painted the inside gloss white for now lol. ill make it eventually

since i made the filter hole alittle big, i have to put them 7 and 5" from the sides on back of hood. im not putting any plants near the filter anyway just sand so itwill work out fine. ill have it set up later today and ill post a pic.

only got the hood painted today so ill post pics tomorrow of set up tank.
hood looks smaller since i painted it black.

Got the tank done today. Didnt built the reflector yet so im gonna try it without it for now. all low light plants should be ok. wanted to divide the sand from substrate so i cut a 2liter bottle and made plastic angles. just cut them and used a razor blade to mark a line to fold them. was free and working great so far, cant see them either since there clear.
used the krylon fusion blk hammered finish paint. love the fusion its tough and waterproof. i have a used filter and substrate and water in it now. ill load it with plants tomorrow so i can move some cherrys in next week.

just wondering...will those lights help at all...i know they take little power to run but they put out 60 to 100 watts of power...are these lights spectrum different than what we are looking for?

Very nice design, which makes the tank look like fine furniture. If you want more light, just paint the inside with an "ultra" white paint and you will increase the intensity of the light by at least 50%.

bought the lights at walmart. they dont make 10,000k bulbs like that, you dont need that much unless your have a saltwater tank.

yeah i wanted to paint it today but rained and to humid to paint. ill paint it white for sure, dont know if the reflector will give it much more anyway.

heres a pic of the 15w same pack as the 10w lights
