Post Paludarium drainage?

I want to make a paludarium with an expanding foam background. I always see how people put little pots into the background then put plants in them but how do they drain the excess water? Also for the land section if I make a false bottom does anything need to go into it? The false bottom wont be connected to the water area at all. Could i run a small pvc pipe down the foam background into the false bottom so I would be able to drain the excess water with a small tube?

the point of a false bottom is for water management.

I was just wondering how the water from inside the pots in the foam background would get down to the false bottom?

ah, that I am not sure. I would assume you just don't water too heavily.
