Gas Separation and Bulkhead Fittings

I'm going to be using DIY c02 for my 29g 65w low-tech tank. I'm using http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html#3 as my guideline but I'll be using a glass diffuser instead.

In the article he uses a "gas separator". Is this just a DIY bubble counter? If so, can I just use an aqua-medic bubble counter on it?

Also, he mentions a fitting between the airline tubing and the bottle cap since the cap won't bound to glue very well. What type of fitting is this and where can I get it?

I used silicone on the cap w/ silicone tubing; worked fine. It's easier than that bulkhead probably.
